Well, how are you all doing? Is anyone else finished besides Abigail?

Not me! I'm a few thousand words behind, so I have to go get back to work. Two or three more to go before I'm caught up for today, I think.

Hope you're all doing good!

Brown is a nice color. It really is, especially in shades such as cinnamon or chocolate. But it's never really done anything for me. On the other hand, just see what green has done for me! Check it out!Collapse )

I am finished!!

Ok, so I haven't written a WORD of my story, because I haven't had any sort of idea or inspiration. (I tried the "just start writing and it will come to you" idea.
Then today I stumbled across something I wrote 7 months ago an idea. All it said was "Carjacking; Luke Williams" so what should I do? Begin writing it now?? and hope to get to 50,000 words by the end of this week? Or make December my writing month??

I'm so bad. I'm afraid I'm starting to like my villainess (is that even a word? :P ) better than my heroine.

I think that I finally understand just exactly what a writer means when they talk about their characters not cooperating with them. ;)

Ha, funny :) I completely forgot today was the first of NaNoWriMo until just now, reading all of these posts. . .

Anyway, I suppose I ought to update on my plans. Slacker that I am, alas, I am not going to really officially do NaNo. Though that shall in no way, shape, or form diminish my incurbable enthusiasm for playing the cheerleader for the rest of you!

I'm still going to be writing with you girl, though :) I've got a sort of murder mystery-spoof going in my creative writing class, and I think it's at about 3,600 words right now. Maybe 300 written today? But I'll plunge ahead in this and try to reach at least 25,000 with it by the end of the month. . .

Good luck to all!

I guess I'm off to a good start, anyways! I must say I'm having a very hard time not editing. The mistakes are screaming at me.

It starts. I have yet to write any words, but with my latino studies class out of the way, I can begin.

And now I realize the following: I have no plot. I have no characters. I have very little motivation. For the first time in my life, procrastination will include Chemistry homework while I try to figure out my motivation. This I know: if I can stick to the 1,167 words daily limit, homework will not be left to the way-side. Otherwise, doom and despair settles in.

Here are the two plots I'm working with, typical Aleshia style

1. The Year of the Pencils: The president for some unknown reason outlaws the usage of pencils. All comply except a small pocket of rebellion. They are hunted down and arrested, one by one, until only three remain. They travel the globe, protesting, campaigning and hiding from the government who is attempting to completely eliminate pencil usage in the entire world, thereby dominating global cultures and laws. This, as I was designing my plot was beginning to sound like a parody of Left Behind, which I may or may not fly with. The plot evolved as I was sleep deprived, using pencils, and studying for an extremely hard test. Can you tell?
2. The Attack of the electrophiles: I don't have much of a plot to go with this, except for one scene, where a professor, perhaps a chemistry professor, uses a mind reading program on his students and realizes only three of them are actually thinking about the subject he's discussing, and of those three, none of them understand what he's talking about and are concentrating on how confused they were.

I think I'll probably go with plot #1 because it's the most .... well developed (though neither are at all intelligent, I know), and maybe use #2 for a random scene, maybe to show how wonderful the world is before the pencils are outlawed. Before I do anything, I'm going to poke through the forums and see if I'm inspired on another plot, because mine fail miserably.

Once again though, my biggest problem is characters. I don't internalize them, and have more or less no clue how to even start with that, unless it includes writing friends as key characters and attempting to disguise it - but I think that will get me into trouble.

Suggestions? critiques? (I would have done an lj-cut on this, but my memory about how to do so fails me, so I didn't)

I cheated. Last night I found myself sitting in front of my laptop, plugging away at my NaNoNovel '05.

No! Don't pound me. *hides*

In my own defense, it was a scene that I just had to write, or else I'd forget it. And ultimately, what kind of a writer do I really want to be? One who can write fifty thousand words of crap in a month, or one who can write a good book, regardless of how long it takes? The latter, I think.

Well, to even things out, I am now going to have to write at least 50,381 words. :) My goal is actually 60K, but we'll see. =)

Y'all looking forward to midnight? ;)
